RESPONSE OF THE SUG TO THE MEMO RELEASED BY CODP ON THE EMEKA AGBANARI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME.*

*RESPONSE OF THE SUG UNIZIK TO THE MEMO RELEASED BY UNIZIK COUNCIL OF DEPARTMENT PRESIDENTS ON THE EMEKA AGBANARI SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME.*

*1. NEED FOR THIS LETTER.*
Good day dear Unizik students!
This comprehensive letter is a response to the memo released by leaders of the Unizik Council of Departmental Presidents signed by their chairperson, Comr. Edomobi Maria. They claimed in their memo of 6 lines that “due to a discrepancy…they were putting a hold on the scholarship scheme”. They didnot state any rationale or clear reasons for this action they took, thereby putting the interests of the students, who this scholarship scheme was for, in jeopardy.

This response letter by the SUG is a reply to their memo wherein the SUG details all the activities of this scholarship, answering all the allegations of the Comr. Maria Edomobi-led Council and also, raising points which the council must answer about the letter they released to the students they serve.

*2. ACTIVITIES OF THE SUG EMEKA AGBANARI SCHOLARSHIP.*

*2.1* First of all, the SUG wishes to tell our students to keep applying to the Emeka Agbanari scholarship scheme till its deadline on the 25th September, 2020.

*2.2* With enthusiasm, the SUG is happy to announce that over 784 Unizik students have registered for the scholarship, and sent in their applications. We are glad of this turnout and we’d keep doing more.

*2.3* At the start, the SUG President called the said Comr. Edomobi Maria who is the chairperson of the Council of Departmental Presidents for her to send a representative to represent her Council in the scholarship committee being set up by the SUG. She obliged and sent in Comr. Ejike Sopuruchukwu to represent her council.

It is therefore alarming that Comr. Edomobi Maria said that what caused her annoyance is that the SUG president wasn’t calling her to give her updates about the scholarship. This was an information readily available to her from the scholarship committee or her representative there. The SUG protests that this chief reason is very insensitive and unbecoming. This is not a reason to put on hold a scholarship scheme that would bring smiles to the face of over 140 students, of which 784 students has applied already. The SUG is here to serve the students and encourages all leaders to put the students’ interest first and therefore, frowns on this act done.

*2.4* Dear Zikites, the SUG wishes to reiterate at this point that for the sake of transparency and all-inclusiveness, the SUG set up a Scholarship Organizing Committee composed of members from every faculty, councils and, even Nnewi and Agulu campuses.

*2.5* At this juncture, the SUG wishes to state that the Scholarship Committee has done incredibly well in setting up the framework for the scholarship to work and have set the applications machinery in motion.

*3. POINTS/AREAS FOR THE COMR. EDOMOBI MARIA-LED COUNCIL OF DEPARTMENTAL PRESIDENTS TO ANSWER.*

*3.1* The SUG wants the Council to answer to the entire students community, why they didnot state their alleged reasons for putting the sensitive Scholarship project on hold, and yet released the memo without reasons to the public, thereby causing crisis, chaos and pandemonium within the students community, and bringing the SUG to disrepute.

*3.2* The SUG wants the Comr. Edomobi Maria-led Council to answer why proper communications protocols were not made to either the Scholarship Organizing committee or the SUG, and why they made costly assumptions which led to their memo which is currently heating up the students polity.

*3.3* Also, the Comr. Edomobi Maria-led Council claimed that the SUG President didn’t honour their said meeting before their memo.
First of all, the said Council didn’t extend even the courtesy of sending an Official Invitation and Agenda to the SUG President about their said meeting.

Furthermore, even with the lack of formal Invitation, the SUG President(on seeing a late notice about the meeting on a WhatsApp chat) readily called the SUG Vice-President to represent him and the SUG at the Council’s meeting which she did very well.

The SUG wants the Comr. Edomobi Maria-led Council to state to the students why they then said the SUG ignored them, and thus why they released the memo.

*4. CONCLUSION.*

*4.1* The SUG demands herewith that the Comr. Edomobi Maria-led Council withdraw their memo and issue a public apology to the SUG, the Scholarship providers and the Scholarship Organising Committee, for their disruptional behaviour and unwarranted memo cancelling a scholarship which they have no powers whatsoever to cancel.

*4.2* The SUG wishes to announce that it would be pursuing strict disciplinary actions against the Comr. Edomobi Maria-led Council(all who are concerned with it), for their act of telling students not to apply for a free scholarship already sanctioned by the highest levels of authority at the SUG. Their memo which purported at telling students not to apply brought confusion and chaos, and painted the SUG in a bad light.

*4.3* Our dear students, be rest assured that the SUG always has your best interests and that’s why this scholarship scheme was initiated courtesy of financial sponsorship from High Chief Emeka Agbanari, Chairman/CEO of Seaman Group.

*4.4* Thank you and God bless.
