*THE STUDENTS’ JUDICIAL COUNCIL CONDEMNS THE UNLAWFUL BEATING OF A STUDENT*
Our Ref: SUG/NAU/SJC/002/2020
The students’ judicial council strongly condemns the unlawful beating of a male student in the girl’s hostel. And states unequivocally, that the action of the security personnel who committed the act is unlawful, unconstitutional, and inhuman.
We call on the security personnel of the University to desist from all forms of human rights abuses, as the present SUG Government would stop at nothing to seek redress in a competent court of jurisdiction. The University management should as a matter of necessity, immediately ensure that the the suspect is sanctioned to deter others from engaging in such unwholesome acts in future.
We have gone past the ancient times, savage ages, when men took laws into their hands, and the strong converted the weak to become their slaves. And even punished them like animals for making mistakes however trivial.
We hereby forthwith, assure all the students of our resolve to protect their fundamental human rights as guaranteed under the Constitution, the United Nations Universal declaration of Human rights, including the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.
We assure you, that the matter is being looked into. All necessary measures have been put in place, towards ensuring that the suspect is tried and punished in tandem with the provisions of the law.

Special Adviser/Assistant to the Chief Justice of the Union, and the Students’ Judicial council.

Chairman, Students’ Judicial Council,
